ADL Walk Against Hate

My first global studies event, was volunteering at the Anti Defamation League, walk against hate that Watkinson was able to host this year. This walk was for a wonderful cause and a great first global studies event for me this year. It was a wonderful experience to see the Watkinson community that I belong to, join together with the ADL for a wonderful cause.

Bethel Woods, Arts Center.

The Global Studies program took a trip to  Bethel Woods Art center. The Museum and site of the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. For this trip the Global Studies program joined together with the Creative Arts program to both enjoy and learn from the immersive experience. It was such a great experience to not only learn but also experience such a unique perspective when going to Bethel Woods. I was very fortunate to be able to learn about the activism that took place at Woodstock right on sight and loved to see all the artwork and pieces of the past.

ADL Never is Now Summit

The Global Studies program had the opportunity of attending the 2021 ADL Never is Now summit. Similar to the ADL Walk Against hate of which the Global Studies program attended as well. Workshops were offered with professionals in their specialties in which many topics were discussed, relating to Hate and Anti Antisemitism in our world and what we can do to help create change in our own communities.  Speakers such as Vice President Kamala Harris,  L’Oréal chairman Jean-Paul Agon, Sheera Frenkel and actor and activist Daniel Dae Kim were all in attendance during the opening session. There were many additional topics as well of which were very informative including Facebook's hate crisis, culture switching and hate in the acting world were just some of the amazing discussions that took place. I not only found myself learning but also thoroughly understanding each topic and brainstorming on how I can make a difference in my community as well.

Palestine Museum

The Global Studies and CAP programs took a joint trip to the Palestine Museum in Woodbridge.

It was wonderful to be immersed in such culture, with displayed artwork and an authentically cooked Middleastern dinner. It was such a great learning experience not only to learn the culture from the work but also to talk to individuals from Palestine and Sudan as well. It was a wonderful experience and I can not wait for more unique experiences like this!

NYC Trip

The Global Studies and CAP programs were able to take a trip to New York City!

It was wonderful to experience such amazing opertunities, including a talkback with UN officials and going to see The Thanksgiving Play written by Larissa Fasthorse.  It was such a great learning experience not only to learn the culture from the our expeirences but also to explore the city a bit on our own as well.  It was a wonderful experience and a  wonderful way to end my final year in the Global Studies Program.
